John Baptiste makes me smile

I don’t actually watch TV, I get the Reader’s Digest condensed version on YouTube. You see, I actually prefer to get my news through the filter of comedy. At this particular moment in history, life is a binary choice. You can either laugh or you can cry.

So I browse through my late night subscriptions and open a tab to the videttes that interest me. A little Colbert, a little Trevor Noah, a splash of Jimmie Kimmel, a garnish of Seth Meyers and side of Samantha B and Bill Maher. Because come on, if you don’t laugh, you will cry.

And every morning while performing my morning YouTube toilette, I cherish one particular moment. The moment after Stephen Colbert checks in with John Baptiste, he plays an 8 bar improvisation and signs off. And every morning, a little miracle happens. His countenance, his grace, his smile, his wink and his soul are embossed on me.

There seems to be a popular meme these days that goes something like: “If you could only listen to one piece of music”….or “If you could have only one book”…

If I could have only 30 seconds of video each day it would be the blink of an eye when this amazing musician and human being signs off. He makes me smile, and I simply can’t help myself.

John Baptiste and Stay Human. Available everywhere goodness is sold.
